KOLUKKUMALAI - KERALA


Kolukkumalai is a small village in Bodinayakkanur Taluk in Theni District in Tamil Nadu State. Bodinayakkanur, Theni, Chinnamanur, Periyakulam, are the near by Towns to Kolukkumalai . Kolukkumalai is reachable by Bodinayakkanur RailWay Station , Teni RailWay Station , Andipatti RailWay Station , Usilampatti RailWay Station , . Its main Village Panchayat is Kottagudi Panchayat .

Kolukkumalai Tea Estate can be found 35 kilometers outside of Munnar, India. Built atop the precipitous ridge, the Kolukkumalai Tea Estate majestically crowns the below lying Tamilnadu plains. estate is known for its excellent full flavour which was recognized in 2005 when the Kolukkumalai tea won the Golden Leaf India Awards

There is a organic tea factory which is 75 yrs old and it was started by British. The tea plantation there is the World's highest grown tea plantation.(about 2160 meters abv MSL). the tea factory was established in 1938. 

The Kolukkumalai Tea is harvested and processed using traditional techniques which is one of the most important aspects that continues to draw tea enthusiasts to it. It takes seven steps to properly process the Kolukkumalai Tea and all of it is done in a factory at the center of Kolukkumalai Tea Estate. The seven steps of their orthodox tea making process are as follows:
1.                    withering
2.                    rolling
3.                    sieving
4.                    fermenting
5.                    drying
6.                    fiber extraction
7.                    grading

The route from munnar to kolukkumalai will be covered by mist during at the mid of the day also. 






There are resorts for staying. The trip to the tea factory will be by a jeep. The roads are not well laid but will have an adventurous trip too.
